PORTAGEVILLE - Verna Sims Long, 88, died Feb. 10, 2005, at the Portageville Nursing Center.
Born Oct. 30, 1916, in Brilliant, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Andy and Emma Winter Sims.
On Aug. 12, 1936, in Alabama, she married Bill Long who preceded her in death on Nov. 3, 1991.
Also preceding her in death were three sons, Harold Long in 1955, Lecil Long in 1972 and Cecil Long in 1942; two brothers, Howard Sims and Rufus Sims; two sisters, Jossie Ingle and Rosa Dodd; and one great-granddaughter, April Dawn Hyslip.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Sue and Arnold Myrick of Sikeston and Jimmie Nell and Bobby Ward of Hayward; one brother and sister-in-law, Hobert and Ruth Sims of Clarksville, Ark.; four grandchildren, Harold Joe Myrick, Cindy Wilburn, Sheila Jones and Lisa Russom; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Revs. Mark Inman and James McCulloch will officiate.
Burial will follow in Pemiscot Memorial Gardens at Braggadocio.
Pallbearers will be: Gary Baker, Joe Elrod, Jake Fisher, J.K. Swilley, Garland Butler and Bud Johnson.
