MATTHEWS - Oather G. "Pete" Burch, 87, died at 10:12 p.m. Feb. 10, 2005, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born June 24, 1917, in Matthews, son of the late H.T. "Dick" and Willie Morgan Burch, he was a motor grader operator for 40 years for the New Madrid County Highway Department, retiring in 1982. He was then a motor grader operator for Grayridge Special Road District from 1984-2004. He worked for Burch Farms, was Matthews city marshal for 17 years and was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Matthews.
On July 3, 1944, in Piggott, Ark., he married Donnie DeJournett who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: fours sons and three daughters-in-law, Bloyce and Nedra Burch, Jim and Cathy Burch and Dennis Burch of Matthews and Curtis and Cheryl Burch of Farrenburg; four daughters and sons-in-law, Detsel and Melvin Belvin and Robin and David Hough of Sikeston and Shelia and Lonnie Polk and Karen and Pat Magee of Matthews; one brother, Harold Burch of Sikeston; and 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda Dean Burch; and eight brothers and four sisters.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be at 2 p.m. Monday. Officiating will be his grandsons, Chris Polk and Jeff Polk, assisted by the Rev. Rodney Dunlap of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Matthews.
Burial will follow in the Matthews Cemetery.
