Fugitive is back in Scott County

Thursday, April 28, 2005

BENTON - Richard Yang is back in the Scott County Jail.

Yang was dropped off by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety at 10:19 p.m. Wednesday and is being held without bond.

Jail staff said the next step for Yang will be an appearance before Circuit Court Judge David A. Dolan but Prosecuting Attorney Paul Boyd was unavailable as of presstime to confirm when Yang will appear or on what specific charges.

After entering a guilty plea to the charge of second degree murder in Scott County for the stabbing death of his estranged wife, Louise Yang, on July 4, 1998, Yang was released from custody until formal sentencing after posting bond but fled from the county in 1999.

Leads and information provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agencies led to the capture of Yang at 6:30 p.m. CST April 15. He was then held by Los Angeles County authorities until the travel arrangements were made.

Having established one of the first successful Chinese restaurants here, the Yangs were well known in the community and were on a first-name basis with many of their customers.
