BERNIE -- Gains Harding Hodges, 83, died Oct. 16, 2004, at his home.

Born Dec. 3, 1920, in Berden, Okla., son of the late William Walter and Dixie Lee Brownen Hodges, he retired from the Missouri Highway Department in 1972. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was of the Baptist belief.

On May 27, 1939, in New Madrid, he married Glendola L. Uhles who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Henrietta and Ferrell Austin of Bell City and Wanda and Jim Sparks of Malden; one sister, Anita Jacques of Shawnee, Okla.; and four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Four brothers, Paul Hodges, Monroe Hodges, Dennis Hodges and DeLeon Hodges, preceded him in death.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Burial with military rites will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
