NEW MADRID - James Carl Colwell, 62, died Aug. 16, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Nov. 25, 1940, in Matthews, son of Juanita Etheridge Colwell of New Madrid and the late Diwood O. Colwell, he was a truck driver for the City of New Madrid, where he was also a member of the Church of Christ.

On Dec. 21, 1982, in New Madrid, he married Betty Jo Freshour who survives of the home.

Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Tracy Joe and Angie Colwell of Tallahassee, Fla., and Timothy James and Kate Colwell, stationed with the U.S. Navy in Oak Harbor, Wash.; three stepchildren, Rose and Cole Smith of Sikeston, Rob McKnight of Louisville, Ky., and Michael and Bea McKnight of Arkansas; three grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-granddaughter.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday with Ed Thomason, minister of the Church of Christ in New Madrid, officiating.

Burial will follow in Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn.

Pallbearers will be: Carl DeSchamp, Joe Drake, Cole Smith, Allen Abbott, Michael Abbott, Michael McKnight II, Josh Middleton, Larry Prince and Russell Riggs.
