ST. LOUIS - George McCray, 72, formerly of Charleston, died July 21, 2005, in the emergency center at the St. Louis University Hospital.
Born Sept. 12, 1932, in Hillhouse, Miss., son of Mary Oliver of Charleston and the late Jessie McCray, he was a lifelong resident of Missouri and employed at Herman Oak Leather Company until his retirement.
He married Lillie McCray, who survives of the home.
Other survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: five sons, Oscar Evans, Willie Evans, George Evans and Jerome McCray of St. Louis and Sherman McCray of Chicago; three brothers, Christopher Oliver of Charleston, Wayne Oliver of Chicago and Harold Oliver of Des Moines, Iowa; four sisters, Dorothy Allen and Edna Sykes of Chicago, Irness Fennell of Charleston and Bobbie Dunigan of St. Louis; and 15 grandchildren.
Services were held this morning at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Elder Steve Betts officiating.
Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
