SIKESTON - Miss Caroline and Miss Isabel Hess, of the Portageville area, were visitors to Sikeston on Thursday.


Mr. and Mrs. I.G. Lewis spent the weekend at Indian Mound, Texas.

SIKESTON - Here and there across the broad cotton fields of the Bootheel, one can see field hands busy picking the first of the 1963 cotton. But in two weeks, mechanical cotton pickers will be chugging through the fields as cotton harvest season will be in full force.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Girls Tennis Team will try to improve on last year's 7-5 record when the 1983 season opens Tuesday at home against Jackson. The coach is Jackie Cowan.

SIKESTON - The decorations committee for the 1993 Hospital Ball met Monday morning to discuss continuing plans for the upcoming event. Committee members include: Cindy Nelson, perimeter chairman; Dianne Jennings, stage left and right; Lisa Colwick, decorations chairman; Jennifer Beggs, ceiling; Judy Mitchell, Show-Me Rentals; Kelly Williams, north wall; Denise Tullis, bars; and Janie Kaiser, ball chairman.


SIKESTON - Four young contestants competed for the title of Little Miss Citizens Home Mission Outreach Center on Saturday. The winner was Angelisa Jones. Other participants were Kristen Riley, Paige Eaves and Ashley Mitchell.


CHARLESTON - Brian Donovan, 34, city manager of Charleston for three and a half years, has accepted the position of city manager at East Grand Rapids, Mich. Donovan announced his resignation to the City Council Wednesday.
