SpeakOut 9/5

Call 471-6636

The biggest problem we have around here are the welfare people. They're too lazy to do their job. We had complained several times about a woman who runs around all the time with different men and has different men in her house all the time. She stays up all night and sleeps all day and leaves her oldest little boy (age 10) to take care of the baby and his sister while she's in bed asleep. What if one of the kids got hurt real bad or would fall out of a tree or something at 2 o'clock in the afternoon while his mom is asleep. We called the welfare office several times. They told us they didn't find anything wrong, everything is OK and they are not going to bother her anymore. What is it going to take, one of the kids to get killed and then they'll say nobody called them? All she wants those kids for is a paycheck. She doesn't care about them. She has four kids and each one has a different daddy. One of them, she doesn't even know who the father is. If you ask me, she's a pervert mother, but the welfare won't do anything about them. If it does happen (because we have called the welfare), somebody is going to get sued.

When Jimmy Carter was President he said we were almost out of fuel. Well, it looks like we finally came to it. He wanted to go back to mules and horses. It looks like we're going to be forced to do that. So get ready ladies. Get your bonnets out and get ready to ride in a wagon.

I'm calling about the old Baptist Church building on South Kingshighway. Every time I pass it, it looks like it has been vandalized more and more. It's just going to be an eyesore in Sikeston. It looks to me about what I see in city buildings it could turn into a crack house. People who own property are supposed to keep it up. I don't know who owns the building, but surely they could either demolish it or clean it up. It's just a shame.

I would like to comment about the gas prices. It's nothing but a rip-off. The people are making money. They're getting greedier and making more money. Three or four weeks ago the price of diesel was the same as gasoline. Now the price of diesel is 15 cents cheaper than gas. Believe me, we aren't dummies out here. We should be paying the same price as diesel. President Bush is a good president but I think he got oil bonds and I think he is making too much money to go in there and ask OPEC to increase their production or something. We need help. The people who work for minimum wage at the Standard Democrat, grocery stores, filling stations, those who make minimum wage, this is killing them.

I would like to SpeakOut about all the wars and killing we've had since World War II and especially since Harry Truman was president and dropped the bomb on Hiroshima. I just finished reading a book about it. Truman was sorry he dropped the Atomic Bomb. He said he wish he hadn't. He said you don't turn back and think on things like that after you do it and things work their way out. You don't grieve over things. You make your decision and do it. Evidently, the world hasn't learned much since the dropping of the Atomic Bomb. The leaders in the world are as confused and mixed up and rattled as ever. It's time our President of the United States and all others around the globe, I think it would be a good meeting for them all to get together and sit down and discuss this. It may take a week or a month. Show those films, let them sink in and bring up the thing that happened in Japan when Truman was president and learn from this. It's time the world slowed down and get back on solid ground.

I have been blessed to have fine upstanding parents. While not everyone is that lucky, just because one's parent is not a role model does not mean that person cannot become a fine, upstanding person themselves. One of the most irrelevant pieces of news the Standard Democrat has ever printed was the article on Aug. 25 about Schwarzenegger's father being a Nazi. That has absolutely no bearing on today. It has absolutely no bearing on Arnold Schwarzenegger's behavior or background.
