SIKESTON - W.U. Myers, Sikeston agent for the National Life of Vermont, finished the fiscal year of the company in eighth place among more than 1,200 agents and general agents in the country.

SIKESTON - Roy W. Ragains, superintendent of schools for Scott County R-5, announces that all schools in the district will open Aug. 15.

SIKESTON - About 1,200 people braved the hot weather to attend the Production Credit Association's 50th annual meeting, conducted at the Sikeston High School Bandshell.

SIKESTON - Whether a child is entering kindergarten or senior high, the first day of school in a new environment can be overwhelming. To make the experience a successful one, parents need to remember on basic idea: be positive. "I can't stress enough how important it is for parents to instill a positive 'I can' attitude in their child. If a student believes that they can solve problems and be successful - then they will," said Dr. Ruth Ann Roberts, director of elementary education for Sikeston Public Schools.


CHARLESTON - For Mississippi County residents the word is "the mainline levee is in good condition and being monitored 24 hours a day to ensure that stability will remain." Col. Ted Fox, district engineer for the Corps of Engineers, Memphis District, reiterated the safe conditions Wednesday.
