HOWARDVILLE - Etta Mae Gatson, 70, died at 5:28 p.m. June 28, 2005, at her son's home in Chicago, Ill.
Born Jan. 14, 1935, in Wabbeseka, Ark., daughter of the late Richard and Laureaner Stephens Gurley Sr., in 1940 her family moved to Missouri where she attended Catron Elementary School and O'Bannon High School in New Madrid. She was a member of the Catron First Baptist Church where she held several positions including president of the choir, treasurer and secretary.
On July 8, 1962, she married Bunk Gatson, Jr., who preceded her in death in April 1988.
Also preceding her in death were five siblings, Erma, Vida, Roy B., Richard Jr. and Vera.
Survivors include: six children and their spouses: Osie Lynetta and Walter Gills of Genessee, Mich., Marilyn McGee of Chicago, Thomas McGee of Howardville, Bruce Gatson of Chicago, David and Mary Gatson of Denver, Colo., and Leroy and Carolyn Gatson of Chicago; two sisters, Netra Gurley of Howardville and Lorine Brown of Chicago; one brother, William Gurley of Lilbourn; and four granddaughters and five great-granddaughters.
Visitation is from noon until time for services at 1 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Catron.
Burial will follow in the Simmons Burial Park at Catron.
