BERNIE -- A Bernie man is in jail after he began shooting a handgun into a crowd Friday night.
According to the Bernie Police Department, at 9:45 p.m. Friday officers were summoned to Paradise Lounge, 1110 W. Main St., concerning a man with a handgun. On arrival William T. Robinson, 45, of Bernie was arrested on the back parking lot of the lounge, and a .380 caliber handgun was found nearby.
According to reports, patrons stated a fight broke out between Robinson and several other people inside the bar over Robinson's improper advances to a female. The fight was carried outside to the rear parking lot. Robinson went to his truck, got a handgun and began shooting at the people he had been fighting, witnesses told police. No one was injured.
The matter was referred to Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Briney Welborn who filed charges of a felony attempt of murder in the first degree and armed criminal action.
Bond was set at $75,000 cash only. Robinson is scheduled to appear before Associate Circuit 35, Division II Judge Joe Satterfield Thursday in Bloomfield.
