Federal fugitive caught in area

BENTON - A federal fugitive and his wife are in custody in the Scott County Jail after being arrested by sheriff's deputies Saturday.

The couple are also being charged with possession of a controlled substance, according to Sheriff Rick Walter.

Eddie Boyer, 45, of Scott City was wanted by U.S. Marshals on felony charges when two Scott County deputies stopped the car Boyer and his wife, Teresa Boyer, 39, were in at Scott City. "We had received a hold on him from the federal marshals," Walter said.

Both were arrested on drug charges after a search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of methamphetamine and about $4,700 in cash.

Upon reaching the Scott County Jail, Teresa Boyer was strip-searched according to jail booking procedure and an additional quantity of methamphetamine was found to bring the total amount seized to 4.9 grams. In addition to the previous possession charges, Teresa Boyer was charged with introducing a controlled substance into a jail facility.

Bond was set at $40,000 for Eddie Boyer and at $50,000 for Teresa Boyer.

Both were arraigned in associate court before Judge David C. Mann Tuesday.
