REPUBLIC - James A. Matthews, 76, died at 11:58 a.m. May 28, 2005, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Born Oct. 27, 1928, in Sikeston, son of the late Jack and Elsie Sullivan Matthews, he had worked in sales for B.F. Goodrich Tire Company and later owned and operated Matthews Real Estate in Cape Girardeau. He moved to Republic eight years ago, where he was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include: one daughter, Judy Moomau of Republic; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and DeeLyn Matthews of Sterling, Colo., Charles "Chuck" and Dodee Matthews of Clever and Steve and Linda Matthews of Jacksonville, Ill.; three brothers, Lyman Matthews of California, John Matthews of Sikeston and Larry Matthews of Dexter; and eight grandchildren one great-
Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Reese Matthews, Joe Matthews and Jack Matthews; and one sister, Irene Hunt.
Services were conducted Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Republic with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Minton officiating.
Burial followed in the Wade Chapel Cemetery.
Meadors Funeral Home of Republic was in charge of arrangements.
