PORTAGEVILLE -- Ralph H. "Pete" Smith, 85, died Sept. 25, 2003, at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark.

Born Dec. 13, 1917, in Portageville, son of the late James Ralph and Elizabeth D. Lester Smith, he was a former police officer in Portageville and a truck driver.

Survivors include: six sons, Wayne Smith of West Memphis, Tenn., Mike Smith of Olive Branch, Miss., Charles Smith of Memphis, Tenn., Donald Smith of Atoka, Tenn., Dale Smith of Hornlake, Miss., and James Alexander Smith of Mississippi; three daughters, Kay Smith of Lamar, Miss., Charlotte "Bobby" Massie of Memphis and Claudie Louise Anthony of Mississippi; three sisters, Wanda York and Wilma Malugen of Chicago, Ill., and Dorothy Adams of Mississippi and 23 grandchildren.

Four brothers, Arvel Smith, Lloyd Smith, John Smith and Larry D. Smith; and three sisters, Gertrude York, Anna Marie Hinton and Betty Jo Smith, also preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville, where services with full military rites are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Charles A. Smith and the Rev. Rick Smith will officiate.
