XENIA, Ill. -- George "Jerry" Chadwell, 63, died at 6:23 p.m. Aug. 8, 2003, at his home.
Born Feb. 22, 1940, in Parma, Mo., he and his wife were owners of Xenia Cafe for five years and also ran the concession stand at Sam Dale Lake for three years. A member of the Xenia United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post and UAW 25 in St. Louis, Mo.
On Feb. 5, 1972, in St. Louis, he married Linda Hunter who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: four sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael and Valerie Chadwell of St. Charles, Mo., Thomas and Cindy Chadwell of St. Louis, Robert and Kay Branom of Parma and Frank Branom of Xenia; three daughters and one son-in-law, Renee Vasquez of Foley, Mo., Teresa Branom and Cynthia and Rex Branom-Brown of Xenia; three brothers and their wives, Charles "Buddy" and Yvonne Johnson of Fredericktown, Mo., Wendell and Kathy Johnson of Arnold, Mo., and Henry and Sharon Johnson of East Prairie, Mo.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Edna Faye and Doyle Powell of Sikeston, Mo., Sarah and Wayne Godwin of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Becky Bodkin of Arnold; and 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen; one brother, Joe; and one great-grandson.
Services were conducted today at Xenia United Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert McKelvey officiated.
Burial followed in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Xenia.
Frank and Bright Funeral Home of Flora was in charge of arrangements.
