SIKESTON - Shirley Jean "Beanie" Nelson, 55, died March 25, 2005, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Feb. 3, 1950, in Essex to the late Jim and Alvester Scott Nelson, she had lived in Gary, Ind., from 1966 to 1982 and resided in Sikeston since 1989. A member of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Canalou, she was on the Usher Board, a member of the choir, worked in the food pantry and served as secretary of the church. For the past 22 years she was employed by Arvin-Meritor as an auto-welder machine operator.
Survivors include: one son, Orlando Scott Walker Sr. of Byhalia, Miss.; one daughter, LaSonjia Chantelle Nelson of Memphis; one sister, Margaret Nelson Grayson of Essex; four brothers, Earl J. Nelson of San Antonio, Texas, and Milton Nelson, William Nelson and L.D. Nelson of Parma; five grandchildren; and a special friend, John W. "Bo" Walker of Gary.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores Jean Moore in 1983 and an infant sister, and by one brother in 1989, Veroy Andrews.
Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter until time for services at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Moses Grayson of Essex will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in Malden.
