SIKESTON -- Three men are in custody after a robbery at Hibbett's went wrong last week.

According to Sikeston DPS, Joseph Westbrook, 22, who had recently resigned from Hibbett's due to unhappiness with the company was arrested along with Christopher Kreitzburg, 20, and Jacob W. McDermott, 18. All three men are from Bertrand and have been charged with robbery in the second degree. They are currently being held at the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department under $5,000 bond.

The arrests occurred after Hibbett Sports manager Ty Tucker was walking to his vehicle with a moneybag at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. He was jumped by one of the suspects who struck him and took the moneybag before fleeing on foot around JC Penney's. A witness, who observing the incident contacted DPS, watched the suspect get into a getaway vehicle with two other subjects then followed them as they fled south on Highway 61.

Sikeston dispatchers alerted Miner and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, advising them of the vehicle description and license plate number, which checked to a Bertrand address. A Miner officer located the vehicle on south Route AA, approximately 10 minutes after the initial report. Assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Sikeston officers all of the suspects were taken into custody without incident. During a search of the vehicle the bank bag and money were recovered.
