Sikeston native wins newspaper award

SIKESTON - A former sports writer for the Standard Democrat has been announced as a winner in the 2003 Missouri Better Newspaper Contest.

Chad Jennings, a native of Sikeston, was awarded second place in Best Sports Story - News or Feature in Class 1.

He also won an honorable mention in Best Sports Column, which included all newspapers in the state of Missouri. The award-winning news stories were written while Jennings was working for the Columbia Missourian.

A 1998 graduate of Sikeston High School, Jennings graduated in 2002 from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

The son of Dan and Dianne Jennings of Sikeston is now a sports writer for the Scranton (Pa.) Times Tribune.
