VERO BEACH, Fla. -- With the Vero Beach Dodgers facing elimination and down to their final strike, Blake DeWitt blasted a 3-run home run to give the Dodgers a 3-1 win Wednesday night at Holman Stadium.
It was the first time the Dodgers had scored since the first inning of Game One.
The tying run had been thrown out at home one batter prior to DeWitt's game-winner.
The series concludes Thursday night at Holman Stadium with a 7:00 PM first pitch.
The winner advances to face the Lakeland Tigers in the Florida State League Championship series.
In eight games so far this year since being promoted to Vero Beach, a High-A baseball team, DeWitt has hit .419 with a pair of home runs.
DeWitt was recently named the Most Valuable Player for the Columbus Catfish, a Low-A team that he spent most of the season with.
For the Catfish, DeWitt led the team in numerous offensive categories.
After his promotion, the Catfish collapsed, losing 11 of their final 12 games.
DeWitt is a 2003 graduate of Sikeston High School, where he rewrote the school record books and broke seven Missouri state records.
