Missouri Bulls named 'Wrestlers of Week'

Wednesday, July 6, 2005

KANSAS CITY -- The Missouri Bulls, the 2005 Cadet Dual Freestyle National Champions, have been named Wrestlers of the Week for the week of June 21

-27 by the USA Wrestling website, TheMat.com.

This is the first time an entire team has been selected for this honor.

Sikeston High School coach Ivan Robison was instrumental in the team's success, serving as an assistant tournament director and assistant coach.

Sikeston heavyweight Robert Madison was a member of the team, comprised of high school freshmen and sophomores. Madison compiled a 4-4 record in the championship.

It was the first-ever title for any age group in Missouri USA Wrestling history.

This was also the first time that the Cadet Dual National Championships have been held in Kansas City, Missouri. In previous years, the event site has been Greeley, Colorado.

The Bulls placed second in the Cadet Greco-Roman Championship. Overall, the Missouri team finished the tournament with a near perfect 19-1 record.

"The wrestlers and coaches did a spectacular job all week at the duals and to be in the finals in both styles here in our own state and in front of our parents and supporters made it even more special, " said event director Craig Ewing, also the State Chairperson for Missouri USA Wrestling. "Being national champions in freestyle was just the icing on the cake of what was an incredible week of wrestling in Kansas City."
