UNIONTOWN - Edgar Leo Balsman, 81, died April 4, 2005, at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Feb. 20,1924, in Perry County to the late Leo Andrew Balsman Sr. and Gertrude Caroline Unterreiner Balsman of Uniontown, he was owner and operator of Balsman Sales and Service where he performed auto body repair, welding and custom combining then later he taught auto body repair at Sikeston Public Schools for 24 years. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek, he was a member of the St. Joseph's Men's Organization, Knights of Columbus William J. Barnwell Council 1263, the Missouri State Teachers Association, Sikeston Public School Teachers Association, Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, the International Edsel Car Club and the St. Francis Medical Center Auxiliary.
On Aug. 16, 1947, he married Corrine Anne Blechle, who preceded him in death on May 10, 1994. Also preceding him in death was one daughter, Judy, an infant brother, Joseph Balsman and one sister, Trudie Kohlfeld.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Debbie Balsman of Union town; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Carol and Joe Bindbeutel and Brenda Miller of St. Charles, Diane Balsman of St. Louis, Jan and Rick Heise of Perryville and Sheila and Scott Kirn of Friedheim; one brother, Leo Balsman of Apple Creek; two sisters, Anna Marie Ernst and Jean Ann Buerck of Perryville; and 12 grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-9 p.m. today and from 6:30-9:45 a.m. Thursday at the Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek with the Revs. Jim Unterreiner and Tony Dattilo as concelebrants.
Burial will follow in the St. Michael Cemetery in Apple Creek.
