Looking Back in Time at Sept. 26

Friday, September 26, 2003

SIKESTON - Miss Joy Mae Edwards is enrolled at Tallahassee State Girls' College in Florida for the school year.

SIKESTON - Ginger Evans celebrated her fourth birthday last Thursday at Angels Day Care Center. Guests were: Laurie Harbin, Lisa Couch, Lisa Terrell, Gregg Jewell, Steve Topp, Cliff Wheeler, Kevin Waldo, Harold Bennett, Brad Tanner, Gary Griffen, Buddy Barnes, Larry Keller and Bobby Moore.

SIKESTON - Kristi Stevens, 14, daughter of O.L. and Sandra Kimes, was crowned Junior Miss Cotton Carnival Thursday evening.

EAST PRAIRIE - In the City Council's bimonthly meeting Thursday evening, Larry Spangler of Cable World Inc. informed the board his company would provide four converter boxes to the R-2 School District.

SIKESTON - Roger Miller and Gene Strouve have been kept busy this week while working in the American Legion fish stand. The stand is open during the annual Cotton Carnival, which is nearing its end. Today's highlight is the Miss Sikeston Contest, set for 10:30 p.m.

SIKESTON - If you are on your way to Public School Stadium Friday night and pass the Sikeston team bus leaving town, don't worry. They'll be back. After getting a strong effort from his players in two road games this season and a lackluster performance at home, Sikeston coach Charlie Vickery is pondering a slightly different approach this week. "The team has used time on the bus to get focused and mentally prepared for the game," said Vickery. "So I'm not ruling out the possibility of getting a bus and driving the players around town before the game if that is what it takes."
