SIKESTON - Southeast Missouri was visited by intermittent showers Sunday continuing throughout the night and Monday. The Sikeston gauge showed a downpour of 3.7 inches in 24 hours.

SIKESTON - Robert E. Yorke Sr. of the editorial staff of the Daily Standard has received a commission notifying him of his appointment as an honorary colonel on the staff of Gov. John M. Dalton.

SIKESTON - In a special presentation Tuesday, Mayor Kenneth Bridger presented Gerald McConnell with a certificate of recognition for his 15 years of service as a volunteer firefighter for the city.

SIKESTON - Putting in 50 years for the same employer, Eleanor Hahn is the very definition of job satisfaction. The AmeriFirst Bank employee has worked as cash depositor, teller, bookkeeper, secretary and public greeter during her tenure and said she has no plans on retiring. As she reflected on her half century at the bank, she thought about her first day. "I needed a job so I applied at the Bank of Sikeston. There were usually all men tellers back then but a lot of them were leaving for the service, so the bank had hired a couple of ladies. They hired me."

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Booster Club used Tuesday's Junior Varsity game to prepare the concession stand for the SHS Bulldogs' home opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Charleston.
