SIKESTON - William (Butch) Norman Walpole, who for many years engaged in the meat market business in Sikeston, died in Los Angeles, Calif., Aug. 15, according to a message received by Miss Ruth McCoy, last week from his daughter, Mrs. Vera Schmidt, also of Los Angeles.

MATTHEWS - Senior Girl Scout Troop 214 has taken on a safety project protection from fires through a small alarm system. The small, electric alarm can be placed in the palm of a hand. It has an alarm louder than those on clocks.

Sept. 6, 1985

SIKESTON - Missouri Delta Community Hospital's Blood Bank has been granted a renewal of accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks, according to Harold L. Jones, hospital administrator. Accreditation follows an intensive on-site inspection by specially trained representatives of the association. It establishes that the level of medical, technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards set by the AABB.

BENTON - According to David Diebold, market manager at Diebold Orchards, this year's crop is the best he has seen in many years. "We start picking apples in June and don't stop until the end of October. We have started picking Jonathan, Mutsu and golden delicious, and the red delicious will be ready for picking next week. The apples are superb this year. The size and finish are really good."


NEW MADRID - Angie Holtzhouser, executive secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, received permission from the New Madrid City Council Tuesday evening for a riverboat to dock along the riverfront. The boat will be in the community two days in September and again in October. According to the Chamber official, initial plans call for a public "Sunset Cruise" on Sept. 28 and on Sept. 29, the boat has booked students for educational cruises along the Mississippi River. The Mississippi Queen Line is providing the boat.
