SIKESTON -- Sikeston's soccer team recorded its fourth win of the season on Monday afternoon, beating West Plains 3-1. After a scoreless first half, the Bulldog offense came alive with three second-half goals.

"The first half was kind of an ugly game for both teams," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "There was a pretty strong wind in our face in that first half. In the second half, we got the wind at our back and started making more runs. We got more chances to score and we put them in there. Overall, I thought we played pretty well."

Blake Taylor scored Sikeston's first goal at 50 minutes, off an assist from J.R. Bizzell.

Ryan Beaird made it 2-0 with a goal at the 63 minute mark, off a Richard Landers assist.

Nick Dryden scored West Plains' only goal at 77 minutes to make it 2-1. Bizzell added to Sikeston's lead with a goal two minutes later, off a Chris Carnell assist.

Sikeston finished with 22 shots on goal and keeper Jason Deere recorded 17 saves. West Plains had 17 shots on goal and 16 saves.

Sikeston (4-4-1) will travel to Poplar Bluff today for a 4 p.m. match. Earlier in the season, Bluff beat the Bulldogs in a shootout after two scoreless overtimes.

"I think the guys are looking forward to it," said Long. "We had a 2-0 lead on them and let it slip away. We want a little payback (on Tuesday)."

In Monday's junior varsity match, Sikeston beat West Plains 3-0. Goals were scored by Andrew Box, Cody Black and Terrell Booker. Assists were provided by Kyle Howard and Adam Gillean.

The Bulldogs had 15 shots on goal and keeper Cody Cooper finished with 11 saves. West Plains had 11 shots and 12 saves.

Sikeston's junior varsity team improved to 3-3-1 with the victory.
