BERTRAND - The pupils and faculty at the Bertrand Grade School had a terrifying experience Thursday when the roof of the basement entrance was blown off by an apparent gas leak explosion.

SIKESTON - Eighth District Congressman Bill Emerson made a visit to C&F Foods in Sikeston as part of his annual farm tour Thursday. Emerson toured the plant to see how their operation was doing and discussed with plant manager David Copperider the possibility of buying local crops for packaging when the business is operating at full capacity. Emerson was also in Portageville at the Delta Center Field Day Thursday.

SIKESTON - Sikeston quarterback Garrett Taylor avoided the grasp of tacklers during last Friday's soap scrimmage. Taylor will face more of the same this week at New Madrid County Central.
