SIKESTON - Announcing that Taylor's Ice Cream Shop, 115 E. Malone Ave., has been purchased by Ruby Ralph and sons and will be known as Ralph's Cafe.

40 years ago

SIKESTON - Sikeston and Charleston have played 77 times in one of the oldest high school rivalry in the United States. The Bulldogs have won 47 times, the Blue Jays 24. There have been six ties.


BENTON - Sunday will be sort of an anniversary day for all farmers of Scott County. All farmers and their friends will be welcomed guests at an open house in the courthouse at Benton from 2 to 4 p.m. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Extension Service in Scott County.

SIKESTON - The 39th American Legion Cotton Carnival Queen, Lori Fortner, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wood of Bloomfield, was crowned Saturday afternoon.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County Central volleyball team remains undefeated in the SEMO Conference with a 15-3 and 15-5 win over Cape Central.


EAST PRAIRIE - The issue of carrying CBS affiliate KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau and NBC affiliate WPSD-TV at Paducah, Ky., on the Falcon Cable System was discussed with Larry Spangler, general manager of Falcon. Petitions with 70 signatures were presented to Spangler. Signers indicated they would no longer subscribe to the cable service if the signals from the two stations were eliminated.


CHARLESTON - The Charleston Blue Jays tennis team tossed a 9-0 shutout against the New Madrid County Eagles.
