CHARLESTON -- Wayne L. Zook, 78, died at 9:05 am. Oct. 13, 2003, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born July 21, 1925, in East Prairie, son of the late Willie W. and Lillie Mae Phillippi Zook, he had lived in the St. Louis area for many years, where he was employed with the McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Corporation until retiring in 1985. He returned to Mississippi County six years ago and was of the Church of God belief. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
On May 20, 1950, he married Dorothy Tanksley who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Connie Barringer of St. Louis and Renee Hayden of Marble Hill; one brother, Earl Zook of Wood River, Ill.; three sisters, Frances Smith of Riverside, Calif., and Mary Marcum and Gladys Dodge of Wappapello; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Zook, Everett Zook, Troy Zook and Jack Zook; and one sister.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. Wednesday until service time at 11 a.m. at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Larry Smith, associate pastor of the Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie with military graveside rites conducted by the Missouri Military Honors Program.
