BENTON - If absentee ballots are any indication, the interest is running high in Tuesday's general election.
With 850 applications for absentee ballots received by Scott County elections officers for this election, 590 have been voted so far. During the presidential election four years ago, a total of 748 absentee ballots were voted.
So far, 264 absentee ballots have been voted for this election in Mississippi County. The total in the presidential election four years ago was 363.
New Madrid County residents have cast 368 absentee ballots for the Nov. 2 election thus far. In 2002, the last presidential election, a total of 330 were cast.
