SIKESTON - The Sikeston General Hospital is to be closed Nov. 1 according to contemplated action by city officials who have been unable to find a means for the city to continue the operation of the hospital financially.


SIKESTON - E.P. Aldridge, a contractor, sustained a fracture of the left leg in a fall from a ladder yesterday while working on a farm building near Sikeston.

SIKESTON - An automobile driven by Walter L. Beck, 39, Matthews, was struck in the rear by a box car being connected to other boxcars of a Missouri Pacific train at 9:13 a.m. today at the Scott County Milling Co. crossing off West Malone. No injuries reported.


SIKESTON - Three members of the Sikeston Auxiliary Police returned from a two-day convention of the Missouri Auxiliary Police Association in Hannibal.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Rescue Squad members put the Jaws of Life rescue tool to work early today to free the drivers of both vehicles involved in an accident. The drivers were reportedly taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center with moderate injuries.


SIKESTON - Since the city's Sept. 29 letter to Falcon Cable Co. expressing concern over cable service, City Manager Dan Ward has met with local representatives and corporate officer personnel of the company.

SIKESTON - "This is a very intense farming area and we, as citizens have to be aware of that and watch for them on the road," said Lt. Jim McNiell, Sikeston satellite commander, Missouri State Highway Patrol. According to agency figures, last year the Highway Patrol investigated 224 traffic crashes involving farm machinery.


KENNETT (AP) - An 11-year-old boy was in juvenile custody Wednesday after leading police on a two-state chase that reached speeds of 110 mph. Police say he was driving while wearing roller blades. Police placed deflator strips on U.S. 412 at Kennett which flattened all four of the car's tires, forcing it to stop.
