SIKESTON - The new Sikeston Grapette Bottling Company began operations today in the building on Highway 60, formerly the home of S&K Products.

SIKESTON - The Head Start program for the summer opened at the Southwest Elementary School. It was designed to take care of 150 students, with 10 teachers and 20 aides instructing children ages 4 through 6.

SIKESTON - Representatives of Sikeston were invited to a meeting today to form an effort assuring a north-south toll road in Missouri, Richard Pinkerton, manager of the Chamber of Commerce, said. But no representative from Sikeston was able to attend.

SIKESTON - Members of Sikeston's Company C (Detachment 1) of the 1140th Engineer Battalion Missouri Army National Guard, will return home this weekend after two weeks of annual training at Fort Chaffee, Ark.

MATTHEWS - The Missouri House of Representatives recently issued a resolution to honor Dorothy Gayle "D.G." Harrison Gardner as a "remarkable Missouri educator." Gardner is retiring from the New Madrid County School district with 31 years of education experience. She was an active supporter of the local CTA through her service of various capacities including president of the group. Mrs. Gardner was also a former MAP 2000 Senior Leader and was listed in the Who's Who Among American Teachers in 1992.

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. - Everyone knew the Sikeston Legion baseball team had the potential to be one of the best teams in the state. At the 1997 Mountain Home Invitational Tournament, that potential showed its face in many forms, as Sikeston answered the call, placing second among 16 of the best legion baseball teams you could find.
