BERNIE - William Luther Stephens, 72, died April 23, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Memphis, Tenn.
Born Sept. 17, 1932, at Bernie to the late William Everet Stephens and Dollie Lucille Mason Stephens, he had been a farmer and a bus driver for the Bernie Public Schools and was a member of the Bernie Nazarene Church. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War.
On Oct. 2, 1955, at Hernando, Miss., he married Shirley Carolyn Jennings who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Pamela Treat and Theresa Slinkard of Bernie and Tamela Jordan of Puxico; two brothers, Gary Stephens of Starke, Fla., and Donald Ray Stephens of Bernie; two sisters, Lucille Collins and Wanda Smith of Bernie; and three granddaughters, three grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
His sister, Louise Tucker, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Don Wells will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Missouri Funeral Honor Guard.
