Mary Spalding

BENTON - Mary J. Spalding, 100, died at 11:10 p.m. Oct. 25, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born Nov. 22, 1903, in Kelso, daughter of the late John and Louise Logel Enderle, she was a 4-H leader and involved in senior citizens. She attended St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton and was a school bus driver for the Kelso C-7 and Benton/Kelly School districts.

On Feb. 25, 1925, at Jackson, she married Joseph L. Spalding who preceded her in death in 1951.

Survivors include: two daughters, Ida L. "Susie" Roper and Mary Alice Schweer of Benton; and 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Also preceding her in death were: one son, Joe "Amos" Spalding; two daughters, Martha Ann Dempster and Blanche "Sally" Asmus; and four sisters and four brothers.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Denis Catholic Church with the Rev. James Seyer officiating.

Burial followed in the St. Denis Cemetery.

Ford and Sons Benton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
