DEXTER - A Dexter man was accidentally shot Monday as he and a friend were target practicing near Dexter.
According to Stoddard County Sheriff Steve Fish, Paul G. Christian, 35, of Dexter and a friend were target practicing at the gravel pit off County Road 624, west of Highway ZZ near Dexter.
When Christian slipped on a small gravel mound and fell, his weapon accidentally discharged. He was struck in the chest.
Stoddard County Ambulance personnel treated him at the scene before he was air-lifted to a Cape Girardeau hospital, where he underwent several hours of surgery.
The incident is under investigation by the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol.
