Emerson will visit Eighth District farms
CAPE GIRARDEAU - U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.) will conduct the 22nd Annual Farm Tour from July 31-Aug. 7 in Southeast Missouri.
"I look forward to the Farm Tour every year," said Emerson, who represents the Eighth Congressional District. "Southern Missouri is home to a wide variety of agricultural producers and I am proud to represent our hard working farmers."
Emerson said the tour gives her an opportunity to meet with a diverse group of farmers and learn firsthand about the issues important to them.
On her tour, Emerson will visit watermelon, cantaloupe, turf, corn, soybean, dairy, trout and goat farms. She will also meet with local growers, see an auction barn on a sale day, visit with 4-H students and tour the Southwest Missouri State University Research Center Campus to learn bout grape genetics.
"Our agricultural producers work from sunup to sundown. Their hard work feeds this nation and they can feed the world, too," Emerson continued. "Issues like country of origin labeling, flood control and market opportunities are vital to the Missouri farmer. I want to utilize this visit to learn about their views on these and other difficulties on the farm, as well as to let farmers know what I am doing in Congress on their behalf."
Emerson will tour Rice Roundtable at the Ken Minton Farms in Dexter from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Aug. 1; and from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 1, she will be at the Bader Farms Peach Production in Campbell. The tour will continue from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Aug. 4 at Congressman Kenny Hulshof's Farm in Mississippi County, which will also be attended by Sen. Jim Talent.
