SIKESTON -Field headquarters of the Sixth State Guard have been established in Sikeston at the armory. The group has been on duty for three months due to troubles with construction of emergency oil pipelines.

BENTON - In what turned out to be the most exciting Sprint Car race of the season, Jim Farmer posted a win in the 25-lap feature at Missouri International Racepark on Saturday night. On lap 23, Farmer took control of the race and held on for the win. Scot Simion was second and Mike Hoover was third. Jeff Davis and Tommy Shephard came in fourth and Alex Shanks rounded out the top five.

SIKESTON - Selection of the 1993 Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Junior Miss Rodeo Queen will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at the Sikeston Inn. Opened to contestants ages 14-17, they will be judged on rodeo knowledge, overall appearance, personality, mental alertness, vocabulary, sincerity and manners.
