Kelly girls post sixth straight 20-win season

BENTON - The Kelly girls basketball team defeated Portageville 70-65 on Monday night to clinch their sixth straight 20-win season.

Kelly (20-4) outscored Portageville 18-13 in the first quarter which proved to be the difference.

Kelly was led by Kelly Essner's 28 points. Jessica Burnett followed up with 11 points and Rachel Kline added 10 points.

Portageville got a team-high 25 points from Faith Long. Kellye Penn added 21 points.

It was a physical game as the two teams combined for 44 fouls and 57 free throws attempted.

Kelly will host Oran on Thursday at 5 p.m.

CARUTHERSVILLE - The Scott County Central girls let a 40-32 halftime lead slip away as they were defeated 65-64 to Caruthersville on Monday.

Scott Central (15-5) was led by Brittney Peet's 24 points. Brittany Godwin and Trice Johnson each had 11 points.

Caruthersville (16-5) got 27 points from Wiley.

Scott Central will play at Delta on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Bravette junior varsity team won 59-30.
