PUXICO -- Betty Smith, 74, died April 18, 2005, at Puxico Nursing Center.
Born Jan. 11, 1931, in Lovington, N.M., daughter of Velma Markley Dean Collum of Puxico and the late Joe Dean, she had been a resident in Puxico for more than 50 years. She and her husband owned and operated the Western Auto Store in Puxico for 13 years. A member of the Sebring Church of the Nazarene in Sebring, Fla., she was also a member of the Church of Nazarene in Poplar Bluff.
On May 26, 1948, she married D.E. "Gene" Smith who preceded her in death on March 11, 1990.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Alan Smith; a sister, Joan Dean; and an infant granddaughter.
In addition to her mother, survivors include: two sons, Mark Smith of Puxico and James "Red" Smith of Waitsburg, Wash.; two daughters, Jill Reasons of Warrenton and Janice Henington of Summertown, Tenn.; one brother, Charles Collum of Midland, Texas; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday. Emmett Garrison of Sebring will officiate with Greg Gilberto of Poplar Bluff assisting.
Burial will follow in the Puxico Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Matt Reasons, Derek Reasons, Jared Smith, Dustin Smith, Andy Henington and Canon Smith.
