PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. - Ronnie Gene Long, 57, died Sept. 24, 2003, in Pass Christian.
Born Sept. 3, 1946, in Charleston, Mo., son of the late John E. and Ethel A. Long Sr., he was a former resident of Sikeston, Mo., and graduated in 1964 from Sikeston Senior High School. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966 and retired as a master gunnery sergeant after 36 years of service and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, N.C.
On Oct. 10, 1970, in Hammond, Ind., he married Mary Sue Sawyer, and she survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Ella Long of Sikeston, William and Cheryl Hosea of Phoenix, Ariz., and Thomas and Renae Hosea of Las Vegas, Nev.; six sisters, Fredia Williams of Harrisburg, Ill., Doris Riley of Blodgett, Mo., Shirley DeWitt and Diane Ledbetter of Sikeston, Brenda Manker of Murray, Ky., and Sherry Howell of New Madrid, Mo.; three brothers, John E. Long Jr. of Aurora, Ill., Bobby D. Long of Sikeston and Richard Long of Fort Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren, Ronald, Timothy, Jessica, Hallie and Christopher of Sikeston, Andrew of Las Vegas, Nev., and Timmy and Doug of Phoenix, Ariz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Long and Charles Long; a niece, Tammy Parker; and two nephews, Johnny Dale Long and Larry Manker.
Services were conducted Saturday at Bradford-O'Keefe in Gulfport.
Burial with full military rites followed Tuesday in the Live Oak Cemetery in Pass Christian.
