SIKESTON - Six Sikeston boys are listed among the thousands of youths throughout the United States who are building model automobiles and Napoleonic coaches to compete for university scholarships offered in the 1946 competition of the Fisher Body Craftman's Guild.

SIKESTON - Students will have a long weekend Thursday and Friday. There will be a teachers' meeting at Cape Girardeau. The public schools will not be in session.


SIKESTON - Six Sikeston basketball players were named to the SEMO All-Star Conference team. Mike Couch, Bulldogs leading scorer the past season, won top honors in the first team, while Richard Montgomery and McKinley Lambert received honorable mention.

EAST PRAIRIE - Lack of a quorum Thursday evening forced the city council to postpone a decision on the controversial mobile home ordinance in addition to regular business matters. Although the council chambers were filled, only nine persons spoke briefly during the hearing. The majority of those present had given their opinion at the P&Z public hearing Feb. 18. At that hearing, the majority was in favor of changing the mobile home ordinance.

SIKESTON - The entire Sikeston Public Safety Department has just taken part in a Cultural Diversity Training seminar to enhance their skills while dealing with the multicultural differences of those in Sikeston. Community Relations Specialist Bob Wesley with the U.S. Justice Department delivered the cultural awareness seminar. "We have developed a cultural awareness for law enforcement personnel to make them more effective when working with the cultural differences they are presented with in their community," said Wesley. The group is taught verbal and nonverbal skills that may enhance their work ethics.
