KENNETT -- The Sikeston Junior Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 114 baseball team defeated Dunklin County in a rain-shortened game in Kennett on Thursday, 9-1 as it was called after the sixth inning.
Chase Seyer was the winning pitcher, allowing one run off three hits and one walk while striking out six in six innings.
"We played in a steady rain and I give credit to Chase -- he battled the elements," said Sikeston coach Jeff Limbaugh. "He threw hard and threw strikes. We got him an early lead. It's definitely a good win, especially down there."
Sikeston (9-2, 3-0 district play) jumped on top in the top of the first inning when Dylan Harris clubbed a two-run home run.
Sikeston extended the lead to 3-0 in the third on a Josh Jackson sacrifice fly.
Unit 114 busted the game open with a five-run fourth inning with Caleb Seyer's bases clearing triple doing the most damage.
A Silas Dill double brought in Cody Anderson in the fifth to make it 9-0. Dunklin County scored its only run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Other Sikeston hitters were Austin Williams (1-3, 2 runs), Caleb Seyer (3-4, 3 RBIs, 2 steals), Anderson (1-2) and Chase Seyer (1-3, 2 runs).
Sikeston will compete in the Battle by the Lake Classic in Calvert City, Ky., over the weekend. They will play four games in the tournament.
