SIKESTON - The 30th anniversary of the founding of the Sikeston Kiwanis Club observed last night at the Holiday Inn turned out 75 members and guests, including international and district Kiwanis.


SIKESTON - United Fund contributions have climbed to $29,175 it was announced today by Bill Scarbrough, chairman of this year's drive. This puts the feather up to the 75 percent mark on the $39,800 goal.

SIKESTON - "The Bailey Building at the old middle school was struck by a tornado at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Twenty-five injuries have been reported at this time. Rescue personnel and fire division personnel are treating the injured. All citizens are asked to stay away from the area and the damage." This was the news release issued by Sikeston Department of Public Safety Officer, Thurman Burns at 11 a.m. Saturday following a mock disaster drill at the middle school where over 100 citizens and city personnel participated.

NEW MADRID - Wednesday's Class 3 A sectional playoff was supposed to be an easy win for the powerful Charleston Blue Jays, but New Madrid didn't take the game for granted. They cranked out a 29-12 home victory and earned a state quarterfinal berth. "The game came down to who wanted it the most and New Madrid wanted it more," said Charleston coach Dan Kesselring.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston, New Madrid and East Prairie cheerleaders will head for Columbia Friday to compete in the State Cheerleading Competition at the Hearnes Center. Making it to state is an honor for the girls and their coaches there is plenty to be proud of.
