JEFFERSON CITY - Twenty five communities and 12 individuals were honored at the Missouri Community Betterment conference in Columbia.
Receiving a certificate of merit in the annual competition was East Prairie. The community was cited for its Youth Boxing Program.
The Awards Banquet was the highlight of the 42nd conference which assists communities to improve their quality of life. Nearly 400 volunteers, community leaders and youth from across the state were in attendance.
The city of Butler won the Grand Prize over the other 37 communities that entered this year.
"While the awards are nice, the real winners are the folks in the communities that do volunteer work to improve their towns," MCB President Jack Briggs said. "The excellent quality of life that is found in most Missouri communities is a direct reflection on the numerous volunteers who give their valuable time and effort to better their neighborhoods and communities."
