Well, Halloween is over and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Where does the time go?
The staff and volunteers of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce have been busy this past month with the Christmas Open House in Sikeston and now we turn our attention to another annual event, our Membership Drive. While most businesses are already SACC members there are new businesses that have joined the community that we will be calling on. Our members are what make our Chamber. The fees they pay allow us to provide many different services to tourists, residents and, of course, our business members.
Membership in the Chamber is great way to increase new business contact at events such as our monthly membership luncheon, Business/Education Expo, Annual Awards Banquet and so on. SACC provides publicity and exposure to our members by promoting the area and our members to individuals relocating to Sikeston or Miner.
The Chamber is involved in all aspects of economic development for the cities of Miner and Sikeston and the counties of New Madrid and Scott. We provide information, tours, and real estate information upon request in an effort to grow our economic base. We work with area training groups to increase the quality of our workforce to support our existing businesses and manufacturers. We partner with Southeast Missouri State University's Business Center to provide free counseling once a month to potential business owners, as well as those who are already running a small business.
One of our biggest jobs is the referrals we make to our members every day. It never ceases to amaze me the kinds of request we receive. People may be looking for a physician, lawyer, accountant or a florist and believe it or net we even get calls for funeral services. We are information central handling thousands and thousands of phone calls, e-mail inquiries and walk-in requests.
Our Website continues to grow with information about our members and the community. If you have never had an opportunity to view it, go to www.sikeston.net and check it out. It is a great service to our members and the Sikeston/Miner areas.
I have mentioned a few items, events or projects our members benefit from. The SACC staff and board of directors appreciate their continued support of our efforts and hope that new businesses in the area will take advantage of our Membership Drive to become a member of this outstanding 76-year-old organization.
