Wednesday, November 9, 2005

SIKESTON -- Mike Marshall will face an opponent in his bid for another three years as Sikeston's mayor.

Wayne Morgan filed to run for mayor Oct. 31, according to Sikeston City Clerk Carroll Couch.

Filing for elected city positions in Sikeston and Charleston opened Oct. 18. The last day to file in these municipalities for the April 4 election is Nov. 22.

Incumbents for Sikeston's two ward positions, Jim Terrell in Ward 2 and David Teachout in Ward 3, are as yet unopposed in their respective races for new terms.

Two Charleston City Council seats will be on the ballot April 4, according to Charleston City Clerk Marsha Hart.

Incumbents James D. Conn, who filed for another term Oct. 18, and Michael Jones, who filed Oct. 19, are still unopposed.

A primary election for Sikeston or Charleston will be held Feb. 7 in the event that more than two candidates file for any one position.

For school boards and other municipalities in the area, filing opens Dec. 13 and closes Jan. 17.
