Edward Vehrs

DEXTER - Edward George Vehrs, 84, died July 28, 2003, at his home.

Born Oct. 1, 1918, in Monee, Ill., son of the late Edward Henry and Minnie L. Lessnow Vehrs, he moved to Dexter two years ago. A retired farmer and mechanic, he served with the U.S. Army from 1941-45 and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Monee.

On Feb. 17, 1946, in Monee, he married Verna Seegebruch who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Beverly J. Seabaugh of Dexter; one son, Edward A. Vehrs of Dexter; one sister, Marquerite Batterman of Crete, Ill.; two brothers, Wayne Vehrs of Glen Flora, Wis., and Clemens Vehrs of Chicago Heights, Ill.; and three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Wallace Vehrs, Herschel Vehrs and Jerome Vehrs; and five sisters, Gertrude Muehring, Mildred Kvasnicka, Imogene Parzygnot, Avanell Vehrs and Joann Bowen.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Visitation will continue from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Fedde-Helfrich Funeral Home in Peotone, Ill.

Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Monee with the Rev. Frank L. Hoss of Monee officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery in Monee.
