Wednesday, July 16, 2003

ST. LOUIS - The University of Missouri-St. Louis had 41 student-athletes named to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Academic All-Conference selections as announced by the league for the 2002-2003 season.

The men's tennis team placed five student-athletes on the GLVC Academic All-Conference list.

Included on that list is 2001 Sikeston High School graduate and tennis standout Stephen Pobst.

Now a sophomore at UMSL with a major in Anthropology, Pobst is also a member of the Pierre LaClede Honors College at the University.

He finished his freshman fall and spring tennis seasons with a winning record in singles play of 14-7 and 9-3 in doubles matches, including a perfect 3-0 in conference doubles matches.

To qualify for academic all-conference honors, student-athletes must meet a minimum grade point average.

First-year student-athletes must attain a grade point average of 3.40 or higher.

Pobst is the son of Mike and Lisa Pobst of Sikeston.
