SIKESTON -At the Malone Theatre today, patrons will see "Star Spangled Rhythm" starring Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Dorothy Lamour and 40 other top names in show business.


SIKESTON - W.A. Alexander, P.B. Cook and Clark Hall of the Department of Internal Revenue were in Sikeston this week looking for office space.

SIKESTON - The city of Sikeston will take up an ordinance Aug. 3 to reduce the city tax levy by 3 to 5 cents from its present rate of $1.70 per $100.


MATTHEWS - The Matthews R-5 Board of Education has voted to discontinue the so-called "cotton vacation," beginning with this coming school year.

SIKESTON - According to local reports, the high temperature in Sikeston reached or exceeded 100 degrees both Wednesday and Thursday. Radio stations and the temperature station at the city's Coleman Steam Plant reported 100-degree highs Thursday.

SIKESTON - Former Air Force Capt. Rich Cline and Sikeston resident Kristin Friend saw each other for the first time Wednesday after a long correspondence during Operation Desert Storm. Kristin's uncle, Doug Friend, encouraged her to write his friend, who said letters "meant everything" to Americans serving in Saudi Arabia.


EAST PRAIRIE - A rezoning request from Lonnie and Carla Zellars was unanimously approved Thursday evening by the City Council following a public hearing. Casey's General Store has contracted with the Zellars to purchase four lots they own on Lombardy Drive and plan to construct a convenience store.
