MILWAUKEE -- Five local fishermen competed in the 21st Annual Fishing Tournament at the Milwaukee Yacht Club on June 28. The Southeast Missouri team competed against 20 other teams to win the championship.

The team consisted of Lynda Lovins of Dexter, Bill and Val Carroll of Chaffee, and Wally and Cheryl Jones of Scott City.

The team also won an additional prize for catching the limit of 15 fish in four and a half hours. Their catch of coho salmon, chinook salmon, lake trout and rainbow trout weighed approximately 118 lbs.

Lynda Lovins reeled in the largest fish caught by their team, with a 12 1/2 pound chinook salmon.

The fishermen endured squalls of rain, wind and high season on Lake Michigan during the six-hour tournament. They fished with the Maritime Charter Service, which consisted of captain Marc Sobeski and first mate Tom Grohmann in the Waverly, a 34-foot charter boat.

The team won a cash prize of $550 and dinner at the Milwaukee Yacht Club.
