SIKESTON - The Sikeston Bulldogs, after a slow start, defeated the Charleston basketball team in a game here Friday by a score of 34 to 25. Collier and Walker, with 10 points each, were high scorers for the Bulldogs.
SIKESTON - James M. Baird has been appointed by the City Council as representative from Sikeston to the Scott County Extension Council to take office April 1.
Newcomers to Sikeston are members of the J.C. Carroll family, formerly of Morehouse. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll formerly operated the Carroll General Store, 10 miles south of Sikeston. Carroll is now employed by Reiss Dairy in Sikeston.
CHARLESTON - Scott Central's Elnora Timmons, No. 24, scored 20 points to spark the Bravettes' 55-49 victory over Cape Central in the Charleston Invitational Tournament Semifinals.
BENTON - For the Scott County Sheriff's Department, 1994 began the same way 1993 ended - very busy. According to Sheriff Bill Ferrell, deputies handled 436 complaints or calls for assistance during January, while serving 252 civil and criminal court papers. "With over 1,000 active warrants on our warrant list, we will be putting more emphasis on getting these people into custody and into the court system," Ferrell said.
SIKESTON - The Sikeston Department of Public Works installed a new stop sign at the corners of Greer and Prairie streets Thursday. The four-way stop sign was placed at the intersection in an effort to curb speeding and reduce the number of accidents in the area, officials said.
